This week I'm more of a "Pouty" Pirate than a "Frisky" one, tehe. I want to thank everyone for the very kind words and support...it means a great deal to me. I'll post updates as I get them. Great big hugs! Now on with geeky gamer news.
MySpace Soliciting Search Engine Bids
http://tinyurl.com/q4hlt
I've always wondered if MySpace was making any cash since it is more of a junk shop that Yahoo! It turns out they ware wanting Google and Yahoo and MSN to bid on their business. They are going to redesign the page to make more cash as well. Did you know MySpace sold for $580 million in 2004? That is a huge fucking chunk of change and I think they overpaid. The biggest problem is that sites like MySpace are often "trendy". So MySpace is cool today, but could be dead tomorrow...and then your investment is in trouble.

It will take three years to build and over $50 million to produce! Can Blizzard and Vivendi make another WoW? I know most of us are anxious to find out.
MS Says 60% of Windows PCs Infected
http://tinyurl.com/s6xal
Most windows PCs have bots and hyjacks and crap that many users don't know about. Here are some of the things I know Starley and I use to keep our boxes running fast and clean.
AdAware SE
Windows AntiSpyware Beta
PCcillin
Another program that does not hurt to own is Registry Mechanic. A few companies sell this. I like the PC tools one. There is a free version and pay version.
Another pro level trick is to run msconfig. DreamStalker has a great tutorial on this here. The goal is to turn off all the crap that wants to start when your computer boots. Go to Start > Run and type msconfig and hit enter. Click the startup tab and be amazed at all the crap that wants to start when you boot. I try and keep mine to 3 things or less. If you see like 20 things turned on, you have to karate chop them down down.
The one thing I hate about the new msconfig is that you can't make the damn window bigger so I actually use the one that came with windows 98. It gives 4 errors when you start it but stretches wide so you can see the full paths etc. The best thing to do is drag location way to the right so you can see the command line. Look to the end of the command line for the exe. Then if you don't know what a line is...take the blablab.exe part and google it. Usually the top result is a site that will tell you if that exe file is crap, crooked, needed by windows etc and then you can judge if you can turn on or off. Don't quote me, but I think you can turn everything off and windows will still run. You can always get back in here and turn things on if you turned too many off. This startup trick is perhaps the biggest trick it turning off hyjackers and making your PC run faster.
Secret Pic Of The Pirate Discovered
Me and Starley were googling around the net last night and I found this old pic of me before I was the pirate...when I was the Foosball Fanatic, a long-hair that travelled the country playing foosball during a mis-spent college youth. hehehe.
Flickr Cracks Down On Screen Shots

Flickr says "we want humans, not cartoony peeps!" and Second Lifer's say "we want to post our screenies damnit!" Another site that is sweet for posting screenies is young Cristiano's SnapZilla. It really rocks and Cris showed me some secret new modules he was thinking of implementing which does some trick photomanipulation on the fly. I'll have to check in if he has implemented it yet or is about to shortly.
Yahoo Launches New Video Site
http://tinyurl.com/hfdwk
I have to say that I have always hated Yahoo. Yahoo is a junk site and a copy cat. They copy everyone and have not had an original idea in years. Now they are copying YouTube. I have to say I like their Instant Messanger best, but overall I consider them cheap tricks.
Yahoo was a search engine at one time and its claim to fame was that it was a hand chosen directory. So it was not even a search engine but a directory like DMOZ. Well the directory concept failed since the internet grew too fast and Google appeared. So the entire Yahoo concept that they were built on, is gone! Yahoo abandonned the directory years ago. Here is just some of their latest copying
Yahoo Video.........You Tube
Yahoo 360............My Space
Yahoo Search.......Google
Yahoo News.........Google Copy
Yahoo Images......Google Copy
Yahoo Personals...Match.com
Yahoo HotJobs.....bought and copies Monster.com
I just don't see how you can have any logevity in internet business when you are nothing but a high flying copy cat stock company. I will be interested to see if Yahoo can make it another 5-10 years with this approach to business.
